Going to my first gun show, Pics added
I talked hubby into taking me to a gun show in Atlanta tomorrow. Never been to one before, are they usally alot of inventory at these shows, or is it better to buy online? Hubby asked me what type gun did I want? I want a AR 15, he laughed at me..lol...Any info welcomed:emotions16: Miss Kitty

Re: Going to my first gun show
I find Gun Shows fun! Ill carry a rifle to trade and I never know what Ill be bringing home. The best deals are the guns the public brings to sell and the very best deals are out front, before they get in the building!! Have FUN!

Re: Going to my first gun show
First, if this gun show is like others I have been to, I hope you aren't claustrophobic, because it may be shoulder to shoulder.
As for inventory, it just depends on what the dealers bring with them and how much they're charging. Although I am not familiar with how things are done in Atlanta, up this way, we have fellows carrying their personal firearms to sell to prospective buyers at the shows I've been to. Just be careful not to get thumped in the noggin by a guy carelessly turning with a rifle slung over his shoulder! A person can buy firearms online, but only if he or she possesses a Federal Firearms License or if they have their order shipped to a local FFL holder (usually a licensed gun shop) and pay the associated fees and, of course, go through the background check. Let's just say there is some paperwork and planning involved with this. There is another class of FFL for buyers of firearms classified as Curios and Relics that can also buy online. One big disadvantage of buying firearms online is not being able to see upclose and in person what you are buying. You may be better off going to this gun show or to a local gun shop so you can handle the hardware and see what suits your needs. Good luck with whatever you decide to purchase. Make sure you take the time to familiarize yourself with your firearm's operation and care and then practice with it. A gun does you no good sitting in a closet. I love to see the ladies get involved in firearms. My wife is a much better shot than I am even though I'm the gun nut in the family. One more thing: If your hubby gets you an AR-15, you better give him a colossal hug and kiss because those firesticks are getting pricey! |
Re: Going to my first gun show
Thanks Guys for the info....Found quite a few shooting ranges in our area..so I will get some pratice in. Maybe I'll get lucky on the AR-15, thats what I want, one thats not real heavy, we looked at a pawn shop today, they had only one and wanted 1700 for it. MissKitty

Browse a few online retailers so you don't over pay.

Re: Going to my first gun show
I haven't seen any good deals at Atlanta gun shows in a long time, but they're still fun to browse. If you're sure you're going to get an AR, it would be a good place to pick up some extra magazines for it. From what I hear, ARs are really scarce around Atlanta now. Candler Road Pawn Shop (also a gun shop) got a bunch in right after Thanksgiving. I don't know if they have any left. The local EMS guys were all planning to snap them up as soon as they came in! On the plus side for female buyers, there's a woman behind the counter there. I bought an AR15 a few years ago from Ed's Pawn Shop (on North Henry Boulevard) in Stockbridge. They're nice folks and at the time had good prices on their ARs.
I sometimes use the Gallery of Guns (www.galleryofguns.com) Gun Genie as an online resource to compare prices between participating gun vendors in my area. You still have to research prices to make sure you don't pay too much, but sometimes you can find good prices or sales, and you can order through the site by putting down a down payment. You then have to pick up your gun and pay the rest of the balance at the gun store you chose to buy from. It might take a few days for the store to get the firearm in. I've ordered 3 firearms through this site in recent years and never had a problem with it. I've heard they don't have any available ARs on the site right now, though. Good luck and have fun! I thought about going to the show today, but I've got a bunch of work to do, and I spent the last of my discretionary money on a 30-06 the other day. Regarding ranges, you might consider joining a gun club. I'm a member of a reasonably priced one out in Covington (all the ranges are outdoors). If you're interested in the details, let me know. |

For anyone in the Atlanta area especially north, there is Riverbend Gun Club. It is among the top 10 shooting venues in the entire country. |
Re: Going to my first gun show
I remember going to the HUGE gun show at the Pomona fairgrounds every year, in the Los Angeles area. There was around 8 huge buildings full of vendors. Literally a million guns, rifles, shotguns for sale. Of course the liberal city council put the nix on it. You couldn't see this entire show in one day, it wasn't possible. I think it was put on by Great American Shows or something like that. Now, up here in Northern Ca., the local show can be seen in about 20 or 30 minutes. I've never been to the big show in Sacramento, guess I need to go. You will have a blast though. Gun shows are alot of fun!

Southriver Gun Club is nice. It's not as fancy as Riverbend, and it's smaller, but everyone is friendly. I think the dues are comparable between the two clubs. |

Miss Kitty,
I have a Bushmaster AR-15 Modular Carbine. Love that weapon. Has all the rails you'll need including the quad-rail which is a must if you plan on decking it out with accessories. :-) Hope you get one, you will not be disappointed. Love my Bushmaster |
